Sharing Breast Cancer Knowledge During October

One of the most important topics during October is breast cancer awareness. If you didn’t already know this, then perhaps you are lucky enough that breast cancer hasn’t touched anyone near and dear to you. If you already do know and have first-hand experience, you know how important it is to spread the word.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is used mostly to help fund the much-needed ongoing research that combats this terrible illness. The plumbing service industry wants to help create awareness and show respect; please read on to find a little history about this campaign. Hopefully, you’ll decide that you can help make a small difference.

A Pink Ribbon to Portray Support

The pink ribbon is a symbol that is widely used today to show breast cancer support. Do you find yourself wondering how the use of this symbol came about? If you were wondering, below is a little information.

In 1991 there was a breast cancer survivor named Charlotte Haley, who of her own accord, began sending out pink(ish) colored ribbons to people to generate funds for breast cancer research. She did this because she wanted to bolster the limited federal money allocated toward this research.

It was around the same time that Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Race for the Cure was passing out pink visors to participants of the race to generate awareness of the disease. The combination of both acts made the pink ribbon what it is today. The pink ribbon and pink attire sported during October grew roots from these very humble beginnings and spread throughout the world.

October 18th is the Day to Wear Pink

The 291st day of the year is October 18th (or #292 for leap year). You may be wondering what is so unique about that? This day also marks the one crucial day of the year that most of the fundraising happens for breast cancer. It’s also National Mammography Day; this is not a coincidence.

This year October 18th is "Wear it Pink" day across the globe. It is the day that millions of people sport their best pink outfits to raise money for life-saving breast cancer research to happen. If you think you might want to show your backing, you can sign up for one of the many non-profit organizations, then wear your pink!

Medical Signs That Aren’t Benign
